  1. This CD-ROM contains the contents, program, abstracts, and various indexes for 
  2. the 32nd Lunar and Planetary Science Conference. The files can be viewed, 
  3. searched, and printed using Adobe's Acrobat Reader, version 4.0 (or higher) with 
  4. search capability.

  6. If you do not already have Acrobat 4.0 with search capability, you will need to
  7. download the appropriate software from the Adobe Web site (www.adobe.com).
  8. (Note that the Linux version of the Reader does not provide search capability.)
  9.  
  10. The file "preface.pdf" gives the dates, location, sponsors, and program
  11. committee members for the 32nd Lunar and Planetary Science Conference.
  12.  
  13. The abstracts can be accessed in two ways:  in alphabetical order, via 
  14. the file "contents.pdf," or in session order, via the file "program.pdf." 
  15. You can begin browsing the abstracts by opening one of these two files, which 
  16. are both located in the root directory of the CD-ROM.

  20. Using the Search Capability

  23. To use the Reader's search capability, when you first open either the
  24. program or contents files, you must load the Acrobat index.  To do this,
  25. go to the menu bar and select "Edit", then "Search", then "Select Indexes".
  26. The list of available indexes will appear in a box on your screen
  27. (the box will initially be empty, because you have not yet identified
  28. the index you want to use). Click on "Add", then select the file "index.pdx"
  29. from the list that appears. After you have selected this file, click on
  30. "Open", then click "OK".

  37. In addition to the root directory, which contains the "read" files,
  38. "preface.pdf", "program.pdf", "contents.pdf", and "index.pdx", the
  39. CD-ROM contains five subdirectories.  
  40.  
  41. "ABSTRACTS" contains the PDF documents for individual sessions of the 
  42. program and alphabetical sections of the table of contents; this directory 
  43. also contains three folders labeled "1001-1400", "1401-1800", and "1801-2197".
  44. These folders contain the PDF files for the individual abstracts.
  45.  
  46. "FULL" contains a file for each session that contains the program listing
  47. for that session AND all the abstracts included in that session.  The file
  48. "fulllist.pdf" provides a listing of the sessions and the name of the file
  49. for each one.  There are no links within these documents, but they provide an 
  50. easy way for readers to print out all the abstracts for a particular session.

  52. "INDEX" contains the index files used by the Acrobat search engine to 
  53. search through all the abstracts for particular words or phrases.

  55. "REFERENCE" contains the index files provided by the LPI (these are different
  56. from the Acrobat search engine files), and are based on information provided
  57. by the authors on the abstract submission form.  These index files include
  58. "authors.pdf" (list of all authors and the number of their abstract), 
  59. "keywords.pdf" (list of keyword terms provided by authors), "meteorites.pdf" 
  60. (list of meteorite names discussed in abstracts), "programindex.pdf" (list of all 
  61. authors and the session they are in), and "samples.pdf" (list of lunar sample
  62. numbers discussed in abstracts).  Note that there are no links from these files
  63. to the abstracts themselves; they are merely provided as a reference tool for
  64. readers.
